Commentary: Study Group Homework Addition

 

            Many students have never paid attention to patterns and the way that addition and other “facts” are connected.  For them, these types of activities offer a whole new view of mathematics.  The connections to patterns in other bases are also important  many students told me after working with other bases that they had never, for example, realized that ten is “one-zero” for a reason.  7/05
