Commentary: Phantom Tollbooth -- Math Activities
I had a lot of fun writing these! I wrote them for the professional premier of the Phantom Tollbooth musical at the Wheelock Family Theatre two years ago. The sheet was aimed at teachers, and it encompasses many levels and types of problems/activities. I got a lot of praise for this sheet, although mostly from people who didn’t teach math; I’m not sure if anybody actually used it. I hope someone will; there’s good stuff here, if I may say so myself. I did note that many of the parts of the book referenced by these activities were not actually mentioned in the play. And the Mathemagician said he had a number less than 4,827,659 of hairs on his head (I don’t remember the number). 8/05
